Hot Off the Press!
MycoCards Deck - 54 Boletes of Western North America
Co-authored by Gary Gilbert (of MycoCards fame) and Daniel Winkler
Have you ever seen such cool mushroom cards? (Or for that matter, have you ever seen any?) These large Tarot-sized cards feature stunning photos by Daniel Winkler and several other gifted mushroom photographers (a total of 108 photos) and facilitate maximal tactile enjoyment. On one side you will find two carefully curated Bolete images displaying important identification traits showing details of cap, pores and stem, often in different developmental stages. The backside succinctly describes characteristics including common name, distribution area & habitat, edibility and distinctive features that help you "nail down" a species.
While Mycocards are a wonderful newcomer to your identification toolbox, and a skillful alternative to traditional field guides, they have the handy advantage to do double duty as flash cards. Teach yourself and your eager friends and loved ones to recognize the mind-boggling diversity of Western Boletes: stunningly beautiful, extraordinarily delicious, and, of course, a few rather drab Suillus.
Or, to state it a bit more technically, these amazing MycoCards are a very unique educational tool to advance your taxonomic skills!
Creative, playful minds might be so inspired by this portable deck as to create delightful card games. And for those really looking for a challenge, Myco Readings might be in your cards! Please let us know what you come up with!
